On Monday May 12th, the Garden Club of the South Street WI visited Torry Hill gardens, near Sittingbourne, the home of Lady Kingsdown.
The garden is 8 acres and Lady Kingsdown and John, her gardener of over 30 years, showed us around. The garden enjoys wonderful views from the grass terraces over the Isle of Sheppey and the Medway and Thames estuary. It was a wonderful garden with large lawns, specimen trees, three walled gardens and a formal rose garden with over 500 roses. There was also a vegetable garden with asparagus, globe artichokes and rhubarb.
The weather was mostly sunny, but when it started to rain we went inside and had tea and cake.
