Yes, indeed, it’s now 2015. The holidays are over. School and work is back to normal. TV programming has resumed its usual scheduling. And we in Whitstable are in the usual January murky days. No matter. . . the South Street WI is on the up! We seem to be moving ahead with great gusto now. We have a new slate of officers for 2015 although our other committee members have agreed to remain in place for this year. Our new President is Ingrid Osborne, who replaces Gill Rowe. Both Presidents have given their all to South Street WI for more than a few years and we are very grateful to them.
The full roster is as follows:
President: Ingrid Osborne
Hon. Secretary: Pat Morrell
Vice-President: Pam Lilley
2nd Vice-President: Jane Hakes
Committee members: Sally Cook, Anne Eckersley, Jane Hakes, Jenny Taylor, Eunice Long, Linda Swift
Our next meeting is Wednesday the 14th. Our speaker is Eric Spear, who will tell us the story of Rapa Nui, or Easter Island in the South Pacific. Come along and join us. We meet at 2:00 in the All Saints Hall in Whitstable. All Saints is on Church Street, directly across from the Monument Pub. New members and visitors always receive a warm welcome.
Next month (11 February), we will learn about “Bloomsbury Artists, Writers, and Philanthropists” from Ian Porter. That should be another interesting afternoon.
Our committee is busy planning some days out for a little later in the year. We have had some great ideas but are always looking for more. Please let us know if you have somewhere in mind that either you’ve wanted to go or perhaps have already been and want to share.
Our Events Diary had sadly not been updated until now. It has just been updated with the latest information. As we have a few more events coming up, please do check it often. We’ll try to keep it up-to-date. Also check our website (http://www.southstreetwi.org.uk) for the latest newsletter, etc.
Our Shutterbugs, Garden Group, Book Clubs, Drama group, and other special interest groups are also ongoing. If you fancy having a go at any of these, please let someone on the committee know and we will direct you to the right person.
Welcome to 2015!
